2007

December 29, 2007

Sorry I have not been updating much lately. Mostly been sitting in front on my laptop working on the thesis and spending time with Rob, and a little online shopping. Also, I have to admit that I have succumbed to the distractions of Facebook. Heh

Oh another thing, I straightened my hair on Christmas to which someone said it was weird to do it on that day but I don’t see what the problem is. Oh well.

The year 2007 is coming to an end and what I have learnt? Well, many many things actually. Some very trivial and some had quite a profound effect on how I view relationships with people. This year has been bittersweet for me. I started the year with Rob in Chicago and towards the end of the year attended my life-long friend’s wedding.

I noticed that most things are meant to be. For instance, when you wanna go shop or eat and the parking lot is full, somehow if you really want it bad enough, someone almost always pulls out from their parking spot. I always tell Fiona who is always next to me in the car, “See, ditakdirkan (meant to be)” to which she either chuckles or roll her eyes grinning. Heheh

I realized that some people are just not worth your time and at times ignorance is truly bliss. I think that although 2007 has had its fair share of ups and downs, I really feel that I have somewhat matured mentally and spiritually, even though SOMEONE said I was immature. Well, you can’t please everyone.

New year’s resolution? The only thing I can think of at the moment is GRADUATE IN AUGUST. I’m still working on the rest. HEH

Have a great time ushering in the new year!

Merry X’mas

December 24, 2007

It’s Christmas eve (like duh!) and I’m missng Rob more than ever. This time last year we were shopping and went to his company’s Christmas party. On Christmas Day we were at his brother’s place eating dinner. It’s kind of a sad Christmas for us both because we spent the last 2 Christmas’ together and this year, we can’t.

Anyway, I’m gonna start working on my thesis for the day. Just wanted to wish you, yes you, a Merry Christmas!

I can but I can’t

December 18, 2007

I can be indifferent but I can’t ignore

I can forgive but I can’t forget

I can laugh but I can’t always smile

I can believe but I can’t be naive

I can be honest but I can’t be malicious

I can be a lot of things but as the days go by I find it harder and harder to believe in people 100% nowadays. I find it harder to have hope and expectations on them. Then again, it is partially my fault to expect certain values from some people, thinking that they would have the same values as me or at least have some kind of decency on their part.

When I wake up tomorrow it wil be a brand new day, hopefully a day of renewed hope, a day of renewed energy. As I face yet another day, I am glad that I already have people in my life whom I can believe in 100%.

For that, I am thankful.

Hmmmmm

December 14, 2007

Someone sent me this offline message on meebo and I don’t know when it was sent because as soon as I log in to meebo the msg popped out stating the time I received the message. The last time I was on Meebo was last night and I have not logged in this morning until an hour ago. So I know this message was sent to me today.

[02:57(pm)*] you know who: sarcasm…being mature is really not a bad thing Shin, really you might try it once in a while

Now I am not absolutely sure what this is about so whoever it is, feel free to fill me in on exactly what I was being sarcastic over? Since I can’t get the right time as to when this message was sent to me, I can’t track down the person who sent it to me based on my Statcounter.

Okay so now that’s cleared up, I have a few things to say to you “you-know-who”.

1) You essentially said I’m not being mature, at least in “your” standards. So in “your” standards, sending me a message on meebo anonymously is “mature” in your definition? Funny! Ooo ooo ooo let me quote you on that “being mature is really not a bad thing, really you might try it once in a while”. *nods*

2) Judging by my Statcounter today I have no new visitors. All my visitors are RETURNING VISITORS. Mostly from Malaysia, one from Romania, a couple from the US and the UK so far. If indeed my sarcasm irritates you, why do you read my blog? Why do you come back? I never forced you to read my blog, nor do I go around asking people to read it.

3) I have never denied my sarcasm so pointing out the obvious of my sarcasm doesn’t make you really that smart now does it? It says right there on my blog title: “High volume of sarcasm ahead!”. So captain obvious, what’s your IQ score again?

4) I’m all from constructive criticism but if you just wanna insult me for the heck of it, at least have the balls to tell me who you really are. Then we can really have a good argument. 😀

5) I hope you don’t come back and read my blog because I actually feel ashamed to have someone of your “calibre” reading my oh-so-sarcastic blog. Wouldn’t wanna make you sarcastic too with my good charms.

By now some of you may think I’m being defensive but can you blame me? This is MY blog. Money is being paid to keep this URL going. The last time I check YOU aren’t paying for it so I will write whatever I please on it, sarcastically or not. I’m sick and tired of people who think that just because you’re a somewhat regular reader, you have the right to condemn me for what I write. So please crawl back to your hole and stay there.

Thank you! 😀

P/S: On a normal day I would’ve chose to ignore that message but since it will be “that” time of the month soon, you suffer the consequences of my PMSing. Hope you enjoy it. 😀

*Red text is mine 🙂

Of durians and X’mas tree

December 8, 2007

Here I go again obsessing over my thesis, which if you think about it from my point of view, is a good thing. So that explains why I haven’t been blogging much.

Last weekend (yes very outdated post) my dad bought durians and we had quite a feast of sorts. Durians are quite expensive at the moment, ranging from RM12-RM20 per durian. The durian seller wanted to sell my dad RM20 per durian and my dad practically laughed at his face. HEH. Anyway some bargains were made and dad bought five durians.

Nonetheless, I guess that’s a price to pay if you really love durian.

Mmmmm I can almost taste that milky texture

Since it stopped raining this week and when I say it stopped raining, I’m referring to the fact that it didn’t rain for about 7 days in a row like last week. That means it’s back to the banging and pounding. (Get your head out of the gutter)

Wood everywhere

So by estimate, when this renovation is done, we will have another room as big as our sitting room, which my mom wants to fondly call it “The Family Room”. However, I’m quite indifferent about it, considering I already have a tv in my room and rarely hang out in the sitting room ever since.

On a more festive note, I’ve put up my Christmas tree for the year. Come to think of it, this would probably be the third time I have a tree for Christmas. The last time I had a tree was 2 years ago when Rob was here. Of course this fake tree compares nothing to the real tree.

*sigh*

Now I miss Chicago and to some extent (OMG ROB IS GOING TO BE SO SHOCKED WHEN I SAY THIS) winter. I miss the snow (though it didn’t snow when I was there but being able to see it in Wilmot works for me). I hope to go back again next year.

Are you bored with my mundane life stories yet? I am. Unless you want me to start talking about China’s foreign direct investments and exports and imports and the works…? Yeah, I thought so. I’m gonna sign off then.

Don’t expect me to blog much in the coming weeks.

Oh by the way, Rob FINALLY updated his blog.

Okay okay, I’m going back to the thesis.

Hair curling

December 4, 2007

I bought this stick thingy which I don’t know what to call and there isn’t any indication as to what it is in the package either. So hereafter it is known as the “curler thingy”.

(Just to add: I am aware that this “tool” is used to make stylish “buns” or other hairdesigns as indicated on the packet so you look all tidy and whatnot but none of them appeal to me mainly cause I don’t think they suit my “style” as they seem to make you look older more mature. Hence why I PERSONALLY call it a hair “curler thingy”. So ummm, please don’t think that I’m some kinda idiotic bimbo that buys stuff without knowing what they are. Heh)

Okay, so I bought this curler thingy from Cindy for like RM4.90 each. At first I bought one, tried it out and it was alright considering I didn’t put any hair gel or anything like that to hold the curls. So I bought another one over the weekend and gave it a try with hair gel.

This curler thingy is made of flexible wire wrapped in some sort velvet fabric.

Before putting on the curler thingy I applied some hair gel. Then I tied my hair into pigtails really high. Then following the lack of instructions on the packet, I…well….curled my hair. I did it before going to bed so that meant I slept on it overnight. It wasn’t uncomfortable or anything if you tie your hair high enough.

Anyway in the center of the curler thingy is a specified length (it’s stitched) that you need to cut so you can put your hair over the cut hole. After you do that, you just kinda twist the curler thingy along with your hair up (or down) depending on your preference. I personally twist it up cause it’s just easier to do. It’s very simple really.

LOVED IT!

I must say I am extremely happy with the results. Will definitely do it again.

Nonetheless, one has to pay a price to look good. In order to achieve my curls I had to look like this for 8 or so hours.

I looked like I had Mickey Mouse’s ears.

Then I thought I looked more like Chun Li from the famous Street Fighters game back in the 1990s. I mean not like exactly alike but just similar hairstyles. 😛

What do you think?

Bang? What bang?

December 1, 2007

Seeing as it has been raining for the last 4 days straight, renovation works have come to a halt. I’m not sure that’s a good thing or not, mainly because that delays the process and I have to deal with the prolongment (if there is such word).

Been hearing Shayne Ward’s song “If that’s ok with you” on the radio a lot lately and I have to admit that I’m starting to like it. Even the MTV like how the Ah Lian and Ah Bengs call it music video is cool.

The tune and beat is so catchy that it keeps keep playing my head.

I know some of you are awaiting the wedding post but I just haven’t had the time because I’ve been a very good girl working on my Chapter, or at least I try to. *grins*

Perhaps next week? In the mean time here’s a little teaser picture. HEH
