Four Weddings and a Funeral….I’m kidding on the wedding part..just one wedding.
May 12, 2006
With cousins back from Australia and the wedding, I’ve been pretty occupied this week. It’s kind of weird for me to attend a funeral and a wedding of the same family within 10 days.
The Funeral
The funeral was held in this cozy little chapel an hour away from the house. It looked like a mini castle. The cemetery was HUGE. I would say it’s about 5 times bigger than your normal cemetery here in Kuching. There was a mixture of different tombstones, from Christians to Muslims to Jewish to Independents to Taoism. The cemetery looked like it had been around since the 18th century or so because some tombstones looked very old and a few were almost falling apart.
Unlike cemeteries here, the one in Australia was clean and looked very peaceful, with trees and flowers planted all over the place. Here are some pictures (don’t worry, no icky eerie shots. Had I not mention it was a cemetery, you wouldn’t know):
The chapel. Looks like a little castle doesn’t it?

The Wedding
In less than a week upon my return from Australia, I attended my cousin’s wedding. It was postponed for a few times already so it had to go on. I was so busy on the day of the wedding, from fixing her dress to her makeup to getting her food and drinks. Come to think of it, isn’t that the task of a maid of honour? I wasn’t the maid of honor OR the bridesmaid though. Figures..pfffttttt. BUT I did get a nice AngPow for that day (seeing as I’m running out of money). =D The church ceremony took place at St. Joseph’s Church followed by the wedding reception/dinner at 6.30pm in Dewan AsaJaya, Holiday Inn.

Me before the wedding dinner. Makeup by yours truly heh =D
Unfortunately my hairdo wasn’t by me. I don’t have that good of hands. I did give instructions as to how I wanted my hair to be done. Hehehe
With the sister (also my cousin) of the bride and my “bouquet” (which I got from “collecting” roses and orchids from the decorations in the banquet hall AFTER dinner AFTER everyone [well almost everyone] left) and yes I know I look “big”.
The arch that was in the banquet hall seen outside the entrance of church in the morning.
I didn’t get the chance to walk around during dinner to take pictures of the banquet hall. There was a pair of ice sculptured swans on the stage and a nice banner. The hall was filled with pink and off-white roses and orchids and a nicely decorated arch which I was REALLY tempted to steal but I didn’t think it would fit in my car. =( In the end, I “used” the flowers on the arch for my “bouquet”. Hehehe

I finished writing up an overview of China’s political economic history a few weeks ago. I am tempted to add more information to the already 14 pages. But if I were to do that, it would require more effort on my part. Come to think of it, I think I’ll skip that for now. Heh I got the books I need to read from the library on Tuesday. I haven’t even finished one let alone 3 of them. *HELP*
I contemplated posting my writings on China here and decided that it would be boring, plus it’s not like the whole world wide web reads my blog anyway and even if they do I wouldn’t know as no one leaves comments. Heh I’ll reconsider AGAIN.

On a another note, here’s a funny quote for the day: “Its rainy, cold, windy, and grey outside. So I get a fortune cookie to see my fortune for today as a joke. Its said: the weather is wonderful. *straight face*” — Rob
