Yes I do miss bloggng. It’s just hard to find the time or motivation to do so.

Yes I will blog more often once I get everything sorted out.

I’ll be back soon. Til then, take care!

Earth Hour 2009

March 28, 2009

*Update @ 9.02 pm* I took a look outside and I’m pleasantly surprised at the number of houses in my area that are actually participating in Earth Hour. Kuching people not that indifferent after all.

So it’s Earth Hour at the moment and I’m sitting here in partial darkness. The reason why I say I’m in partial darkness is because I have candles burning. In fact, every light in our house is turned off but one. Need some form of light lah. But being online kinda defeats the purpose as I’m using electricity for my laptop and modem. Oh well, I did my part I guess. Better than nothing.

I have had this big craving for any form of cake this week. The craving became massive as soon as Rob showed me pictures of cheesecakes he took at a store. From then on, all I wanted for breakfast, lunch and dinner was cake…any kind of cake. I tried to resist but finally I caved in last night. I went to Secret Recipe @ tHe Spring and bought 2 pieces of cake. I am wholeheartedly satisfied now.

I’m back to being busy again because my supervisor has returned some chapters for MORE edits. ~le sigh~ I wonder how many more drafts to go. But I am glad that there aren’t any major edits so I should be ok for now. I started out thinking I wouldn’t reach the required word count of 60,000 words but after I compiled all the chapters in one single Word document, I was surprised to find out that I was at more than 62,000 words. I felt some sense of pride that one split second. Okay, maybe it was about 10 seconds.

In terms of formating and all, I pretty much have it nailed down. Word count, checked. Appendix, checked. Bibliography, checked. Acknowledgements, checked. Abstract, checked. All I need to do now is make this thesis as perfect as possible for my perfectionist supervisor. To be completely honest I am now at this point where I don’t really care if my thesis is perfect or not, as long as I graduate. It’s been a really lonnnnnnnnnng journey, as much as I hate to admit it.

Well I’m going to sign off now. Patiently awaiting 9.30 pm.

Apologies

March 23, 2009

My apologies.

I think my previous post about the sound waves had a glitch on linking to the waves. I already fixed it so it works now.

So please do try again.

Or if you don’t want to read the post again, you can just click on the links below.

Can you hear it?

March 23, 2009

Today Rob told me about a tone that is so high in frequency that only “kids” can hear it. Apparently this tone became popular with teenagers as a ringtone because it’s inaudible to adults and so they are able to send/receive text messages on their phone in class.

As soon as he told me I got really curious whether I could hear it or not. Anyway, if you look at the chart below you’ll see the age range of those that allegedly are able to hear certain frequency of sounds.

Photobucket

So wanna know what frequency you can hear? Here’s a list of waves Rob made with some thingy ma-jig program. (Oh I sound so eloquently intelligent). Basically, the higher the frequency the less likely one can hear it.

12k.wav
13k.wav
14k.wav
15k.wav
16k.wav
17k.wav
18k.wav

I can almost hear the 17khz wave if I listen carefully. The 18khz I totally can’t make out anything of it. I can easily hear the 16khz frequency and the 15khz wave made me twitch and gritted my teeth. When I heard the 14khz wave I literally threw the headset off. Anyway I’m super duper proud of myself that I can hear the 16khz wave which allegedly is audible to those in the age range of 18 – 24. Muahahahahaha I’m still young after all!

(Crap I think I just gave away my age ).

So tell me, are you young or old (based on the audibility of those waves)?

I hope you guys try it. I thought it was a lot of fun (albeit a *little* lame for some).

P/S: It doesn’t mean you can crank your volume to the max. Stick to the normal volume you use.

Apologies…

February 8, 2009

For the absence.

I’ve been busy, with Chinese New Year, the thesis and all. All being the general mundane daily crap that I do, breathing… eating… sleeping… talking…etc, which when I think about it bears no significance to even pen down…

ANYWAY…

I’m done with it (thesis) for now as I await the supervisor’s comments for the I-dunno-how-many-times-th. But the waiting comes AFTER I email him later lah. I was writing the “Acknowledgement” section the other day and found myself in awe that I’m this close to finish line (I hope). It’s quite a surreal feeling considering all the “trouble” I’ve been through thus far.

I keep praying that this draft is THE draft that gets approved for submission. After submission, all I can do is pray I pass, which is likely. Not because I think I’m super smart but if it gets passed by my supervisor, it should be passed by the external reader (I hope). Okay I’m making myself hyperventilate with the what-ifs scenarios in my head. *Be optimistic*be optimistic*cross fingers*cross toes*cross eyes*

I can safely say that I’ve done it the best I can under the circumstances. Of course it can be better, with time. Just like everything else can be better with time.

Hyperventilation aside…

Needless to say I’m way WAY behind on my posts, I still have a gazillion pictures from my trip to post up. Will sort those out when I want to. 😛

For the time being, I just want to relax and enjoy being a slug…until my next meeting with the supervisor.

Since tomorrow is Chap Goh Meh, I still have time to wish everyone a prosperous and ox-picious year ahead. 😛

Have a good week guys.

Leo’s new trick

January 17, 2009

This is the family dog, Leo. If you remember, I did a post on him when he was just a little puppy.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So sometime in the last week, as I was eating lunch, Leo was begging for food (very typical of him I might add). In fact he was begging on the steps by the door in the new room. He sat on the top step because everytime he gets food, he has to sit. So then I told him to lay down. Now bear in mind the step is probably just a little under 12 and 36 inches in width and length.

Anyway he laid down, and he got his treat. Then the dog, in his effort to want to make me feel bad or something (at least that’s how I felt) laid his head on the floor in the house. I thought it looked cute so I gave him a treat and said “Good boy!”.

I commanded him in Hokkien to lay his head down and he did it a few times. I was estatic! The next day he wouldn’t do it even with me dangling some really good treats in front of him. The traitor!

After some thought a few days later I figured I should change the command and so it became “pity face”. Apparently, he likes to “do the pity face” command more than the Hokkien command. LOL Now every time he wants a treat, he has to do the whole process of sitting, laying down and then “do the pity face”.

Photobucket
This is how it looked first time he did the pity face (Excuse the dark picture)

A few days ago, I tried to get him to do the pity face other than on the steps and he did it! Success! I taught the dog a new trick. He even did it for the parents, although initially he wouldn’t. Now he’ll do the pity face anywhere.

Photobucket
Minding his own business I guess

The steps behind is where he laid down and did the first pity face

Now who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

Goodbye 2008!

December 31, 2008

I woke up today, realising what date it was. Don’t get me wrong, I know its December 31st but it suddenly hit me that today is the LAST day of 2008.

Throughout the day, even when I was at church (attending a friend’s wedding), I wondered what I should be writing about and came up with nothing other than the whole too-cheesy-corny new year’s resolution list. Looking back at my resolutions for this year, I think I’ve only accomplished a few.

2008’s Resolution

1) Graduate in August, which means finishing the thesis – FAILED miserably unfortunately

2) Be a better lover (and I don’t mean sexually you perverts) – Ermmm…I don’t think I can answer that one for myself.

3) Lose weight YEAH RIGHT – who am I kidding? – Lost a little, gain back a ton while bingeing like a freak in the States and lost a little from being sick so much.

4) Be more patient but not stupidly patient – Think I’ve been more patient than I expected I can be.

5) Stand up for myself more – SUCCESS! My greatest accomplishment is of course (figuratively speaking) bitchslapping a “friend” for being a narcissistic prick early this year.

6) Maintain a good relationship with the parents – Think I’ve been able to do that (minus the stupid little arguments but still I think I did good) so SUCCESSS!

7) Erase selfish inconsiderate people from my life – SUCCESS! Life is so much peaceful now.

8) Watch less nonsense tv, read more – 50/50. FAILED. We all know I can never stop watching Spongebob Square Pants. SUCCESS because I honestly have been reading more than I used to. Now, whether I’ve read more than I watched nonsense TV, that’s another issue that I shall refrain from discussing because you all know the answer. HEH

9) Own new gadgets – better digital camera and mp3 player – FAILED because I couldn’t make up my mind and wanted to save more money. Now my camera is going a little cuckoo on me.

10) Appreciate the simple things in life more – SUCCESS. And yes honey, I appreciate my stationary stash as well as the box of color pencils you bought me.

All in all, I guess I can say 2008 has been a year of challenges for me and in its own right has made me a stronger person. The best moments of 2008 was definitely spending 5 weeks with Rob, and enjoying life together.

I better sign off now. Rob will be coming online soon and I have a wedding reception to attend later on.

Lastly, stay safe and have Happy New Year guys!

Roadtrip Mischief

November 26, 2008

When Rob and I were on the roadtrip we had some “interesting” conversations along the way. I laugh thinking about them and so decided to share the laughter and weirdness. Me being the smartass that I am decided to test Rob’s patience with me. Here are some examples. Enjoy~

S: Are we there yet?
R: No…
S: How about now?
R: No…
S: Now?
R: No….
S: NOW???
R: NO!
S: Why not? Is it THAT far?
R: Honey….you knew this is going to take 6 hours..
S: Ok…
S: How far are we?
R: Honey….we’ve only been driving AN HOUR!!!
S: Oh ok….

*******************************************************

S: Ummm are we there yet?
R: No…
S: *sigh* Why not?
R: Cos it’s far away
S: How far?
R: Ask me in another 5 hours
S: But I wanna know now
R: Eat your gummi bears
S: I did, see? *shows empty container*
R: No kidding

*******************************************************

S: How much farther?
R: We still have a third of the way to go
S: We’ve been driving a long time!
R: Yeah…
S: Why does it take so long?
R: Cos we keep stopping
S: Oh…then don’t stop so much
R: We stopped because you want to take pictures!
S: Oh…ok…then don’t stop for my pictures
R:

*******************************************************

Yes, that’s right. I’m that immature and weird. Yes, we are a couple of juvenile delinquents, but hey, we’re proud of it.

Thesis woes Part 2

November 12, 2008

I have been making some progress with editing and adding to the thesis. I must say I am rather impressed but at the same time I’m still weary about my performance. I just try to keep pushing myself.

Today, GASP OMG VOLUNTARILY I went to the library and spent almost 3 hours there. Yes, 3 FREAKING HOURS. Initially the plan was to go to the library to return some books and borrow a couple that I had already looked up the night before. But in the end I came home with 6 books.

WTH….I think I am turning into a geek. Oh Gaaaaaaawd.

Anyway, at the moment I’m TRYING to read a section of a book and after reading it just about 4-5 times I still get this look on my face.

It’s mostly economic mumbo jumbo that I totally forgot about. I took an International Economics class during my Bachelor years but seriously, it’s been 4 years since that fateful semester. I don’t expect myself to remember that crap!

Allow me to give you an example:

Factor shares in output refer to the portions of the total output that are received, as compensation, by input factors…output elasticity is a technical term, measuring the percentage increase (or decrease) in output as a result of 1% increase (or decrease) in an input factor.

Ummm….whaaaaaaaaaaaat?

So as I sit here with this expression on my face , I am at a lost when it comes to these economic jargons. Anybody out there who’s an economics theory whizz of sorts willing to help out a clueless, confused, innocent *COUGH* soul?
