Torment

December 2, 2006

It’s about 2 am and I’m still up.

I have been going to bed around 3-4am in the last 4 days, trying to finish up this proposal. I’m really eager to get it done ASAP so I can hop around in the next 2 weeks. I’m definitely pushing myself to the limit as I have not slept more than 6-7 hours each night. Adding to the fact that I have a sore/scratchy throat which isn’t a good sign. Ah well, I figured better sick now than when I’m in the States right?

So, I should like go back to work now.

Later~~

Break

November 30, 2006

Yes, I’m STILL working on my proposal. *sigh*

I’ve finally got a grip on Wallerstein’s World Systems Theory which is quite a relief.

I hope to finish by the end of this weekend, if not early next week.

Occasionally, I get distracted and start looking up websites of departmental stores in the US. I already have a shopping list started. Lol

Rob and I are making a list of things we wanna do while I’m visiting. The thing I’m really looking forward to is going to the Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier in Chicago and the John Hancock Observatory.

As for New York, I’m excited to see Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Times Square and the X’mas Tree at Rockefeller Center. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you watched Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The huge X’mas tree, remember?

Anyway, break’s over. Back to the books.

Roshinia

November 27, 2006

Rob and I were goofing off last night (as any other night HEH) and talked about having our own little island country. We were coming up with names for our country, i.e. Monkeyland, LaLaLand, Pankey (panda AKA me and monkey AKA Rob), Manda etc etc.

Slowly it evolved into RoShin (Rob & Shin), then Roshina (which I said sounded like a Malay girl’s name) and VOILA I thought of Roshinia! Sounds European doesn’t it? But not to be confused with Romania ok? 😛

The country of Roshinia will consist of a lil island somewhere in Pacific Ocean (preferably) where the weather is wonderful all year long. Not too hot, nor too cold. =D

So with that said, I’m a loyal and proud citizen of Roshinia. I’m a Roshinian! All are welcome! 😀

********************************************************

I just got another 6 books from the library this morning. I’ve decided to also adapt the World Systems theory for my research, so I got a couple of paradigm books by Immanuel Wallerstein. If you wanna know more about this theoretical paradigm, Wiki it.

In the mean time, I will be burying myself with the books.

17 more days til I freeze my ass in New York!!!
21 more days til I get a kiss from Robbie!!! \o/

I love straight hair

November 24, 2006

As promised, here is the result of my rebonded hair. It was really flat before but after 2 washes, it looks good now. I’m very very satifsfied. 😀

It’s hard to take a good angle to show the hair by yourself but these are the best I can do. Heh

I have a lot of catching up to do with my thesis. I’ll be handing off the second draft of the proposal, latest by next week.

I just finished going through 3 books in the last 2 days. It’s really mind numbing so I won’t bore you with the details of Maoism, dialectical materialism and dependency theories. I still more books to read.

On another note, I’m getting super excited about my trip. I can’t stop thinking about it. I keep thinking of how it’s like there and how exciting it would be to meet Rob’s parents and friends and the food!!! It doesn’t help that Rob keeps telling me about places he’ll take me to for burgers or pancakes or pasta or salads or chicken wings and how tasty they are. I’m so gonna put on weight there, which reminds me, I need to lose some weight before I go! Sadly that ain’t happening. I’m 3 weeks away from getting on that plane. There is no way I’m losing any weight that fast. *sigh* I am doomed in the land of fatty forever. Heh.
I also need to dig out my warmer clothes. It’s FREEZING in Chicago. Last I checked, it’s going to be below zero some time this week. For someone who lives in a all-summer-long country, I’m suppose to be dreading this experience but I’m more excited than anything.
Okay, so I’m babbling again. I babble when I’m excited, or nervous…

More proper updates soon, I promise. Take care everyone! Have a great weekend. =D

Hair straightening – GOOD =D

November 20, 2006

I did the hair rebonding at RiGi yesterday and so far it seems really good. I went on webcam yesterday and Rob was like “wow” when he saw it so that’s a good sign. 😀

I have to wait 3 days before I can wash my hair or get it wet. Had a fair chunk of hair snipped off too. About 5 inches or so. Byebye waist-length hair. It’s ok though because I had quite a lot of split ends going on so it’s good to get rid of it.

The whole process took almost 5 hours. I got there around 10 a.m and at 3 p.m. My stylist took a while snipping off my hair and layering it to give me a “new look” so to speak as I have not styled my hair in a while, just occasional trims. I think she did a great job.

I didn’t take any pictures yet. I’ll wait until after I wash it. Then, we shall see the end result.

24 more days til my feet touch U.S. soil!

28 more days til my arms wrap around Robbie!!!

Before and POOF

November 18, 2006

I had my hair braided in Pattaya. I let it sit for about 4 days or so before my scalp started to itch like crazy. Yes, I did wash my hair, rub the scalp in between the braids with my fingertips. I know personal grooming ok? 😛

Anyway, here are a couple of before and after pics of my hair…

Funny things (for me) in Bangkok

November 16, 2006

Disclaimer: Not meant to offend anyone ok? This is just for fun.

Normal looking sign right you see at the airport right? Well, look closer…

Cute right?

There are seperate prayer rooms (surau) for men and women at the airport and the signs are very much fair and equal. One for men, another for women with a tudung (head scarf). Gender equality!!!! I think that’s funny and cute considering I’ve never seen this kinda sign in Kuching, or in Malaysia for that matter. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Next, my cousin and I bought this at a 7-11. We needed snacks for the ride back to Bangkok from Pattaya. From the packaging we knew it was seaweed of some sort. We finally realized what it’s called in the van and laughed our asses off.

Big shit…ermm I mean Big SHEET anyone?

Last but not least, for those of you who have been following the “nok” talk in that tagboard, this will be funny for you. I laughed…

It is with honor, I present to you…..

NOK AIR

I really don’t want to know what are served for “refreshments” during the flight or how the seats in the plane look like or what style uniforms the flight attendants wear. :S

By the way, I call the Thai writing “taugeh” AKA beansprouts. I can’t help it! It looks like taugeh with the curly curly things. I think it’s kinda cute. 😀

Birthday celebration

November 13, 2006

Sorry for the absence. I have been quite occupied lately. Been catching up on reading and I just got back from KL last night. It was only a day trip. My parents had the itch to go to Genting Highland and play the slot machines. I enjoyed it too. 😀 I didn’t win that much considering you can’t really beat the slot machines. You win some, you lose some.

But I am glad I won enough to get my hair straighten this weekend. I have been contemplating doing it for a while now, with my being in the States during winter where the weather is uber dry (AND COLD..scratch that…FREEZING) and my hair is a pain when the weather is dry. Now I have more time to spend with Robbie as oppose to being in front of the mirror fixing my hair.

Anyway, as said in the title, here are some pictures from my birthday celebration.

Second try: Success!

That’s about it for my birthday. The usual. 😀 Before I forget : Thanks very much to everyone for their birthday wishes and gifts.

I gotta cut this short cause I really have to work on my proposal before I get kicked out for negligence and procastination. lol I’m looking to do some extra work before I go off for my trip. *cross fingers*

Ta!

Day 3 Pattaya

November 9, 2006

Day 3 in Pattaya started out with a boat ride to the beautiful Coral Island. The ride was quite bumpy and took about 15 minutes or so. However, on the way there we made a pit stop for PARASAILING!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The camwhoring starts early in the day

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The beach has multiple platforms like this for parasailing

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Parasailing cost 350 baht for a round. It’s about 5 minutes or so up in the air. If you sign up for a second time, they put you up there for an extra 5 minutes. So technically, it’ll be about 10 minutes in the air the second time round AND they dip you in water a couple of times. And yes, yours truly went on it TWICE and got dipped in water 3 times. If you wanna know how deep you get in the water, let’s just say I tasted salt water. lol

Moi getting geared up. Yes, that’s the swimsuit I bought at the night market.

But I have to say parasailing is freaking AWESOME. It can be painful though. I have the bruises to prove it. lol The thing is when you’re up in the air like that, enjoying the view and the excitement, you don’t realize that the harness is uncomfortable (because it’s tight and that’s a GOOD thing mind you) and for a long period of time it may hurt.

Up and up I go

When parasailing was done, we packed up and continued our journey to Coral Island. Like I said a few times already, Coral Island is beautiful. The white sandy beach and sky blue water was just wonderful. The people there were friendly and nice, unlike some in Bangkok. At Coral Island I signed up for the banana boat ride. That was fun too but not as fun as parasailing. Word of advice, when someone tells you “If the boat flips over, let go”, that means “I’m going to do a sharp turn intentionally to make you all fall, not just once BUT twice.” Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 😛

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Yes, that’s me at the end of the boat. What were you expecting? Supermodel body? 😛

After banana boat, we lounged on the beach. My cousin and I got our hair braided and nails done. Hair braiding cost 300 baht. Don’t settle for anything more! I got my nails done for 200 baht but the stating price was 300 baht. I was able to bargain it down with the reason of “Aiyo 5 people!!! Cheaper ok? 200 baht ok? Settle.” 😀

Now you know why I say Pattaya is beautiful. After spending half a day in Coral Island, we headed back to the hotel to clean up and get ready to go do lunch and leave Pattaya. So sad!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We also made a stop at Pattaya’s lookout point to enjoy the view. Check out the view!

Next stop, the cultural and elephant show! Very colorful costumes and lights. I enjoyed watching the elephants bop their heads from side to side and galloping to the music.

By the time the elephant show was done, it was dinner time. We headed back to Bangkok after dinner. It was a 3 hour ride. I fell asleep in the van.

We checked in the Indra Regent Hotel in Platunam and called it a night. The next day we walked around Indra Square. Lots of “branded” goods (if you know what I mean) are sold cheap with the condition you buy more than 3 items in the same shop. Fortunately, the people there were a lot more courteous and I enjoyed myself. However, I didn’t get to shop much because I was leaving on the 5pm flight and the pickup from the hotel to the airport was at 2pm.

Thailand is a nice place to go, for fun, sightseeing and shopping. If you’re more into shopping, it’s a great place to go but my only advice is to not join a tour group because you just don’t have enough time to shop like us. Then again, if you would like to sightsee you can always book a day tour with the travel agent representative in hotels. They usually have a little office at the hotel lobby.

Well, it’s lunch time for me. Ciao~~~
