Kuching Food Fair Part 2

Went to the Kuching Food Fair again last night and ate like crazy (again). I wanted to go walk around in the garden display. Unfortunately the display is almost the same as last year’s and the year before that.

I’ve taken a liking into shirts with words lately. I bought a few when I was in the States. Here’s one:
The shirt says “I love desperate housewives”. I don’t really love the show but I don’t hate it either. I just thought the shirt looks good on me when I tried it on at Walmart. HEHEHEHE
Is it just me or are my posts getting boring every time? I have lots to say but I don’t know where to start or I just don’t think it’s a good idea to talk openly about certain things about certain people. =P
Anyway I gotta work tomorrow so I better get some sleep. Will try to come up with something blogworthy (I hope).

Today I had brocolli and mash potatoes for lunch. I don’t recall the last time I had something quite this healthy. I steamed the brocollies in salted water and seasoned with olive oil and salt and pepper. Looks good doesn’t it? 😀
And to finish off I had fruits – an orange and grapes.

I am the ultimate Sudoku champion of the Roshinia Cup. Earlier today I played against Rob and beat him 5 times. If you’re wondering how the heck to play against another person in Sudoku, check out the games section on MSN.
Rob was all aksyen (cocky) saying he was going to kick my ass in Sudoku today. When I won for the third time he still wanted more. I asked him “Are you SURE? You lost 3 times already!” Then he said something to the effect of “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!” Damn aksyen for someone who lost right? In the end he lost 5 games in a row and said he had enough. To that I said “If you can’t stand heat, get out of the kitchen!” I was so content with myself. 
Speaking of Rob, I now call him Smelly. The reason is because…..
Yesterday morning, I get this long message from him saying:
“I’m so gross right now! I woke up, made poptarts, Chris [his friend] comes by 
! His AC needs a charge. He also broke a sway bar. I can’t fix that. I go in all sweaty, work called, Steve [his boss] needs inside help. I work the oven, its hot today. I finally eat at work cuz an order cancelled. I just got home. I didnt bath or brush teeth yet today. I am GROSS! Oh, im gonna drive a couple hours saturday, Doug [another boss] out of town all week. More money more free food 
. Im stinky.“
Now he subconsciously already knew what he was getting himself into by telling me all that stuff. I couldn’t help myself and called him as soon as I was done reading that message. We talk on the phone for a few minutes, all the while I was giving him a hard time for being stinky. After we hung up so he could go take a bath, we exchanged a few more messages…
S: It’s stinky man on the throne to the rescue! *swoosh*
R: Damnit shinnie!
S: LOL
R: You suck
(Twenty minutes later….)
S: HEH *sniff*sniff* hmmm I think you missed a spot honey
R: Take a huge sniff, I haven’t bathed yet .
S: OMG *THUD* [meaning fainted]
R: DAMNIT SHINNIE!
S: how come you haven’t bathe yet honey?
R: I had to move a couple things, then take bath. I’m in now. SPLASH!
S: LOL splash.
I know, I know. You don’t have to say it. We’re a bunch of 7 year olds. But you guys should know that by now. HEH

Getting the feeling that I’m falling sick, with a scratchy throat and cough. I’ve been sneezing a lot too. Not a good time to get sick, then again there is NEVER a good time to get sick. DUH! 😛
I bumped into my supervisor at Choice Daily earlier. When he saw me, he hid his face with the shopping basket and said he’s ashamed of himself for not getting back to me yet. LOL For the first time, he’s not hassling me for work. Instead, he owes me feedback for two chapters. I like this feeling. 😀
I must continue to work hard for the remaining half of the madness AKA the thesis. Wish me luck!

I’ve been eating a lot in the past week or so. I’m feeling very FAT and bloated.
Last Friday I went to the annual Kuching Festival Food Fair with a couple of friends and ate like crazy. Food variety remains pretty much the same like every year but somehow Kuchingites flock the Dewan Masyarakat like crazy. I suppose us Kuching folks are the “kiasu” (never-lose-out) type. HEHEHE
And like every year, I go for the Taiwanese sausages and sio bees (dumplings). I ate two sticks of Taiwan sausages and handful of sio bees, not to forget the grilled fish and sotong (calamari).

After the food fair, we jumped into the car and drove towards Kuching Airport for Starbucks. We parked pretty far from the food fair so by the time we reached the car, the evil food in us were digested. 😛 (Yes, an excuse to justigfy pigging out)

Technicianphobia

Been having lots of problems with my phone line this past week that now when I see the telephone company’s van around I get all jittery that they will screw up my line. So I constantly watch out for them and if I see them I go check if my phone line is works. HAHAHA Pathetic right?
Just yesterday (or was it the day before? I don’t remember…ermmm yeah it should be yesterday I think. Oh God, now I have resorted to arguing in my head…GEEZ) my phone line suddenly went dead (for like the fourth time) and the words outta my mouth is “WTF”, and I ran downstairs and saw a couple technicians packing up to leave the box. It was raining so heavily but I ran outside anyway and waved and yelled at them. I said something like “WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE DOING??? EVERYTIME YOU GO TO THAT BOX MY PHONE LINE DIES! STOP TOUCHING MY PHONE LINE!” The technicians gave me a “weirded out” look. 😛 I think I had a very scary face. I was ready for combat! I can be quite garang one (fierce).
It’s been raining a lot lately (how lame have I become to be talking about the weather?) and it’s oh-so-nice to wake up in the morning feeling the cool breeze from the window. The downside though is not getting my laundry dried. Oh well.
Kuching Food Festival is back in town. I will be heading over there tonight with my camera if it doesn’t rain. In the mean time, let me make you “lau nua” (salivate) with these pictures.

Of donuts and muffins

I couldn’t get online with DSL most of yesterday until around 5pm or so. I did manage to get a dial tone on my phone line yesterday morning, only it wasn’t my phone line. You see, the technicians screwed up and plugged my line onto someone else’s line. Some guy called and insisted that it was his house that he called. After talking a few minutes we both came to the conclusion that the technician “misplaced” some wires; his phone line to mine and mine to his (I don’t know what they call it ok? Hubs or something perhaps?). I called my number and it rang, the problem was my phone did NOT ring. I bet it was ringing at that guy’s house.
I called the local helpline so many times and the lady told me a few times she would check and call me back, only she NEVER called me back. She did call to check if the phone lines were finally correct or not. One thing though, I feel it’s much more efficient to talk to the local operators than the main call center somewhere in KL (I’m guessing) who really don’t care.
Ok I do not want to talk about it lah, pisses me off when I think about it, amongst other things which I will not go into detail in this post. Maybe my next post.
Anyway I was in KL-Genting on Sunday with the parents who had the itch to “gamble”. By gamble I mean we sit around and play the slot machines. We won some money. I lost at first and started getting a little grumpy but eventually I won my money back and then some more. It was a lot of fun! 😀

Just came back from a VERY short trip in KL-Genting Highlands. I’m super tired because I had shit for sleep last night. Had a hard time falling asleep and had to wake up at 3.30am this morning. I think I got like 3 hours of sleep, more or less.
I had wanted to blog about my short yet fun trip to KL-Genting Highlands with my parents but came back to NO DSL. Surprise surprise right? The thing is YESTERDAY morning up until 3 or so both phone lines in the house were DEAD. No dialling tone, NOTHING. No dialling tone= no internet access = no Robbie time = VERY grumpy Shin.
(Un)Fortunately the lines came back on by 3 or so when I got home from lunch. Now, the phone line for DSL is DEAD. I wouldn’t have thought the line would be dead today seeing as it was fine THIS MORNING when I woke up. So WTF are these people doing?
So AGAIN I called to report the faulty line. Went through the whole process of giving my contact number AGAIN. Seriously, I gave them the phone number and my name. Shouldn’t they already have my contact number stored in there??? I mean I’m such a loyal customer. I CALL ALMOST EVERY MONTH! HELL I CALLED LIKE FOUR TIMES THIS MONTH!!!
The worst part is when I told Mr-WTF-his-name-is my contact number, he repeated my number for confirmation to which I said was correct, he says “And this number is registered under Nurul?” I’m like “WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT????” WHO THE HELL IS NURUL??? Idiot! I repeated my number AGAIN and Mr-WTF FINALLY got his head out of his ASS and got the number correct. So I vented out my frustration to Mr-WTF-his name-is by saying “I have no idea what the hell is going on”, Mr-WTF sarcastically replied “Oh nothing the hell is going on Madam.” At that point I just wanted to hang up on him but resisted because I really need that report made. I did not get his name and I’m glad I didn’t because if I did get his name I’d be writing up a storm of a complaint to you-know-which-company which will make me more pissy which means people around me will have to put up with me more. (As if I’m not pissy enough right? HAH!)
GRRRR I’m so grumpy and annoyed and irritated and agitated and frustrated!
GRRRR I’m so tired!

Monkey pajamas

I’ve had one of the best night’s sleep last night. I slept about 8 hours or so and woke up totally energized. The weather has been cooler here in Kuching lately. Such a nice weather to sleep in. Speaking on sleeping in, I was very comfortable sleeping in my Monkey PJs. Somehow I’m feeling very proud right now to show you pictures of my monkey jamas. Heh

Rob bought me the monkey pants when he came here in late 2005. It’s from OldNavy. The t-shirt, he gave to me during my last trip to the States. I was looking for something to wear to sleep last night and saw the shirt and I had an epiphany. It was like DING!! I thought it would look funny wearing those two pieces together and VOILA! I think it’s a cute combination. 😛
Anyway, I was hyperly twitching for a while because I didn’t know what to do. I started bugging Rob and a couple people online. Then I left for Uni to pay fees. No news yet on the scholarship but I honestly believe I won’t hear from them either.
About 2 weeks ago I went to the Banquet for dinner with my parents. The food there isn’t bad. I love the baked lamb. It’s SO good! A word of advice, don’t order desert k? It’s really not worth the money lah. My watermelon juice cost like RM7 or something. I expected it to be a big glass when I ordered because of the price but I was SO wrong. Then again, I guess when you go to places like that that’s pretty much a norm. Ok ok I’ll stop talking and make you guys drool with a few food pictures.

Oh yeah Rob and I are (actually me in particular) getting hooked on Sudoku again. Yesterday I dared him to a two-hour Sudoku marathon today. I wonder if he’s going to come online early so we can have the match. He usually wins though but the kiasu-ness in me wants to keep playing until I win and when I eventually win, I wanna go again and see if I can kick his ass for a second time to which I usually don’t and we repeat the cycle again and again until we both get brain damage.
Ok, I’m gonna sign off now and prepare myself mentally for the sudoku tournament. HEH

I know I’m late in posting but as always I have my reasons for procrastinating. I just emailed Chapter 3 to the supervisor earlier before dinner time. I feel a thousand pounds lighter. Yes FEEL not actually a thousand pounds lighter ok? (Like that’s EVER going to happen) 😛
Rob helped a lot with Chapter 3. I guess he couldn’t stand my constant whining about how hard/impossible it was to finish it. 😛 I can be quite dramatic when I want to sometimes.
But it was fun working with Rob on Chapter 3. We had some hilarious random conversations.
Example 1: A part of the chapter talks about SOEs which is short for state-owned enterprises and it was hard for me to grasp its concept, let along discuss it.
S: SOEs are a bitch to understand! (meaning SOEs are hard to understand)
R: *ever so enthusiastically* YEAH! Those SOEs are the SOBs (SOB = Son offa bitch)
S:

Example 2: I asked Rob to wake me up this morning so I could continue my work on the chapter. So when he woke me up, the first thing I did was jump online and started working.
S: I think I just finished on SOEs
R: Cool! You’re the bomb baby!
S: HEH not right now i’m not…my face all oily and crap cos i forgot to wash my face. but I did brush my teeth see?
R: LOL Ok that was good

R: !!! *bursts out in laughter* That is SO bad!

Okay I’m going to relax and get some sleep. Yes I know it’s still early but I have a lot to catch up on. Been getting less than 6 hours or less for sleep in the last week.

Some layout changes

I’m sure you guys have noticed some changes on the blog layout. Now, in my defence Rob’s the one who’s been busy playing with the template. So don’t say I’ve time to play with HTML codes rather than blog. I’ve been wanting to have three columns on this blog for a long long time. He also signed me up for Google Adsense to get some moolah and moved some links around. He’s been really patient with trial and error on the HTML codes. If it were me I’d throw my hands up in the air then proceed to pulling my hair out. So thanks honey for sparing my hair (which you love). 😀
I really hope to finish up the chapter by the end of the week. I slept around 3am and woke up at 9am today. So far I’m still surviving with no coffee. I predict I may need some tonight if I want to stay up late again. The problem with me is that my brain tends to work a lot better when it’s dark outside. I have no idea why!
Anyway, Rob didn’t sleep so good last night.
Shin: I think you should take a nap
Rob: Why?
Shin: Cos you’re tired?
Rob: Yeah…
Shin: Right, so go take a nap.
Rob: Why can’t I just have tea?
Shin: ……

Okay so the conversation was funnier for me when it happened…I don’t know why when I type it out it seems so lame. lol Oh well.
