This and that

July 18, 2007

Chapter 3 is about half done and I’m hoping to email it in by the end of the week.

I’m suddenly reminded of the time I was in Chinatown with Rob during my visit to Chicago. I was craving for dim sum and we decided on a restaurant by researching online. There I was trying to order with my limited Cantonese vocabulary as I tried to get the waitresses’ attention by calling out “leng lui” (pretty girl). Sentences like “Ni you har kau mo? No no, har kau. Har kau har kau. Shrimp dumpling! HAR KAU” or “Siew mai” or “Lo mei kai” etc as Rob stared on as if he was watching tv.

Speaking of Chinese, here’s a partial conversation I had with Rob months ago that I just recalled.
In a bratty weird somewhat vain mood…

Shin: I am Princess Shinnie *in all my brat glory*
Rob: *like he’s not paying attention* So like a Chinese princess?
Shin: *decided to change my mind* More like a Chinese empress *evil laugh*

And suddenly he was paying attention..

Rob: Ok
Shin: What???
Rob: Ummm the plunger is your scepter with the ruby colored Swarovski crystal on top, making it the royal ruby scepter plunger and the toilet is your throne.
Shin: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rob: *laughs maniacally*

After some few minutes of me saying “YOU SUCK!” to him and him laughing oh-so loud at my expense…

Rob: I am emperor monkey.
Shin: Yeah, and your white throne is full of shit. LITERALLY. *ROFL*
Rob: !!!!!
Shin: Your name is King Potty and you’re the ruler of DooDoo Land.
Rob: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you guys get it.

If you didn’t, just think about how weird we are and laugh about it. =D

Okay, enough weirdness. Back to the thesis.

Toodles~~~

I miss…

July 15, 2007

Here I go all mushy and stuff.

Miss by Shin Yi

I miss…
looking into your eyes
stealing food from your plate
holding your hand
touching your face

I miss…
seeing you smile
hearing you laugh
hugging you tight
smooching you on the lips

I miss…
eating meals with you
playing footsy with you
being goofy with you
grocery shopping with you

It’s so late in the night
and I should sleep
But all I do is…
miss

I miss…
I miss…
I miss…you.

How to know your other half thinks about you TOO much

July 13, 2007

I recently discovered that some of the cutesy-talk stuff Rob says to me, he also uses on his cat?! In fact, I busted him during a live chat the other day. I guess you could say we learn new things about each other everyday. So, we started talking about how much we influence each other, in terms of attitude, speaking etc.

This is what he told me:

“I almost don’t want to admit this, but I slipped up while talking to my mom. While you and I were talking one night, I went to get a glass of water. Mom wanted to ask me a question… so she went ‘Hey Robbie?’ [Yes, his mom calls him that too sometimes] and I answered ‘yes dear… uhhh… yeah mom’… then blushed badly as my mom smirked at me.”

“This other time I left my room to use the bathroom, my mom was in the hallway and just started talking to me about something and I didn’t understand, so without thinking I went ‘Hun, [short for honey] what the heck are you talking about?’, then got a blank look on my face. I tried to dash for the bathroom but before I could, mom grinned, smugged and said ‘thinking about someone Rob?’. I felt like such a dork!”

My reaction upon hearing that was

I laughed so hard so long I just couldn’t stop and as dangerous as it is to admit this, I snorted a few times too.

Needless to say Rob thinks about me “too” much (not that I’m gloating though :P) which I think is kinda funny and sweet at the same time. He is probably blushing red by now as he is reading this. I’m so gonna get it from him when we talk tomorrow. HEH

Girls’ night (pigging) out

July 11, 2007

Starbucks opened (of all places) at the Kuching Airport last Friday which is kinda odd considering the location. I would think they’ll have better business somewhere around town. Oh well…here’s a picture if you don’t believe me. ๐Ÿ˜›

It rained like madness yesterday. Even more drastic was the wind. I swear the coconut trees outside my house was close to getting blown away (literally).

Anyway the point of this post was the girls’ night out on Monday. Went out with Fiona and Linda and I have to say we were NUTS NUTS NUTS. The amount of giggling involved was plethoric (practising my vocabulary). We hung out at Jalan Song for a couple of hours. I turned my head 3 times to the next table and it was a different set of people every time, meaning we were there THAT long.

We ate SO MUCH that night because we were so hungry. So hungry that I didn’t take pictures of the food but allow me to list out what we gobbled:

1. Chicken wings x 12
2. Satay x 15
3. Big ketupat x 1
4. Grilled fish (stingray) x 1

The damage on the table when we were done….

With our stomachs’ full, Operation Camwhore commenced. It’s funny how we can just camwhore ANYWHERE, even in a kopitiam. HEHEHEHE

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
So nice meh your drink??? So syiok the face (In translation its
“Is your drink THAT good? The facial expression is so contented”)

Linda! Hadn’t seen her in months!

Linda brought chocolates, more precisely Guylian chocolates. It was oh-so-sinful but I didn’t feel guilty at all. I almost had to wipe the drool that was flowing out of the corner of my mouth. I love Guylian chocolates, then again I love all chocolates. Just look at my size!

MMmMMMmmMMMmmm

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
See? Drooling….

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Coincidently I was wearing the shirt that said it all. LOL

Double MMMmmmMMMMmmMMmmm

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
See how much happier I am to be biting into it?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I heard “Hallelujah” on the background when she took that first bite

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Linda, why do you look like you’re feeling guilty? HAHAHAHA

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
No words to describe the contentment. No guilt here.

No comment HEH

We did something bad after the camwhoring. Actually it was me. I looked up and there was Pizza Hut’s sign in all its glory, glistenning and calling out for me, like “Shin come to the light, come and get your cheesy pizza that has the cheese dip thingy” and I said to the girls “I feel like pizza”. We looked at each other and started shrugging our eyebrows and went “LET’S GO GET PIZZA!”

So we did…

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And again…we camwhored, not as much though cause there was a table of annoying kids who kept staring. Man I feel old when I have to called teenagers “kids”. =P

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

So let’s recap:

1. Chicken wings x 12 = RM20
2. Satay x 15 = RM4.50
3. Big ketupat x 1 = RM2 (guessing)
4. Grilled fish (stingray) x 1 = RM11
5. Regular pizza x 1 = RM34 something

Total pocket damage = RM71.50

Total yakking = (To) Infinity and beyond! (This would be funny if you watched Toy Story)

Total giggling = Unaccountable

Total fun= Beyond this world

Pictures and French toast

July 6, 2007

Been feeling oh-so lazy today. Sadly, I’ve been lounging more than working on my thesis. I set myself a deadline to hand in a chapter 10 days from now. Hopefully I’ll stick to it. MUST MUST MUST.

Went out with friends a few days ago and camwhored like crazy. We took 114 pictures in under 2 hours. Many MANY candid shots. Not feeling very wordy today so enjoy the pictures.

Oh yes, just to make you drool here are a couple of pictures of the French toast I made this week; on Monday and today.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It’s pretty easy to make. I don’t follow a specific recipe measurement though. I use one large egg, add some milk and beat until it gets bubbly. Not too much milk though, I would say around 1/4 cup or less depending on the egg you use. Simply put, you still want the egg texture slimey. The milk just makes the toast fluffier. Another thing I add into the batter is cinnamon. I always loved the aroma cinnamon. Anyway, when you got the mixture beaten all bubbly, just dip the bread in and fry both sides in a buttered pan. Voila! You have yummy French toast.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I buy the English bread from Southern Bakery at 2 1/2 mile. I’ve seen bakeries that sell thicker bread slices in Kuching but I just can’t remember which one. Does anyone know? I think if the bread was thicker it would taste better. Then again, what I made tastes heavenly as it is. =D

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I put butter on my toast and people usually use maple syrup but I didn’t have any at home and maple syrup is kinda expensive so I substitute with honey instead. It tastes really good! I found strawberries in the fridge and since strawberries are kinda sour in general, the honey makes it sweet. So, a combination of sour, sweet and buttery. MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm delish!

Oklah, I have to work on the thesis. I know this is a half-arsed post but I will write soon.

Sun halo piccies and stuff (Oh how intellectual I sound)

July 3, 2007

Ok I crawled out of the rock.

So here are a couple pictures of the sun halo as promised. Like I said, the pictures aren’t that good because the view of it wasn’t so clear from where I was and the sun was blocked by clouds. The rainbow colored ring around the sun was faint but enough to be noticed with the naked eye.

Over the weekend, my dad took my mom and I to Seniawan (spelling?) for their so-called famous meatball soup. It was like a good 40-45 minutes drive there.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We stopped by a really old town after brunch which I have no clue what the name is. It looked so deserted. My dad said the shops were over 40 years old. He used to go there as a kid because he had relatives who stayed in the shophouses.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Just a couple of cars along the shops

We walked around for a while and realized there was a river along the shops. I had a pleasant surprised when I saw…

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

GEESE (!) swimming around in the river. Hmmm aren’t they afraid of the crocodiles eating them up?

I love the picture above. I think it’s cute how the geese swim in a line and the “alpha” goose swims next to the queue. How organized of them. Hahahaha. If you noticed the dark brown blackish goose at the back of the line, it’s actually a duck. Rob’s exact words when he saw this picture: “Yeah that’s not racist at all. Leave the black behind.” LOL Yep, leave it to Rob to come up with smartass comments like that.

I know that geese tend to chase people so I kept my distance and used my lovely camera’s 12X digital zoom to capture some shots. (I love my camera!)

The head of the pack was showing me who’s boss. It has the look of “What YOU looking at?”

On the way back, I noticed the mountain. Sadly I have no idea which mountain this is. *hangs head down in shame* Anyway, for some reason I think it looks like a face, like the side angle of someone’s face while laying down.

Doesn’t it?

Right? Or am I hallucinating (AGAIN)?

Badly bruised ego

July 1, 2007

This is quite embarrassing for me to say but…

I fell down today….

into a…

longkang (drain).

Now I’ve always had a hard time imagining how one can be so stupid as to fall into a longkang. Today, I was the stupid one. I really don’t want to go into details because it’s embarrassing but I’m sure some of you out there need something to laugh at, so I shall try to explain the best I can as to how this happened.

I was walking on grassy surface in an outdoor parking lot and to step off the grassy area I had to walk over a longkang. I successfully went over the longkang with my left foot but as I stepped forward with my right foot, I stepped into a hole that was not visible to the eye because it was filled with grass. When that happened my right foot kinda got confused and moved backwards causing my left foot to fall back into the longkang while I lost my balance and slammed the grass with my FAT ASS. Yes, I had one foot in the longkang and another on the grassy side. Also I have to say that the longkang was quite deep. I don’t remember exactly how big this longkang is but let’s just say I could fit in it standing and that it was up to my hips. Just picture me making a number “7” with my legs and you pretty much can see how it looked.

As if that wasn’t enough, this happened with a few people watching and gasping. I seriously didn’t know where to hide my face. So, I got up (albeit very ungracefully) and put on a brave face and acted like nothing happened, and walked into the store.

Here are the results from yours truly’s “mishap”:

I have some bruises on my left hip and lower stomach as well but I’m not going to show the world layers of my FAT. As if I don’t torture you guys enough with my words. =P

Anyway as soon as I came home I cleaned the cuts and bruises with antiseptic and hydrogen peroxide. Me being the “tough” girl I THOUGHT I was didn’t bother to dilute the hydrogen peroxide with water as indicated in the instructions. I applied on the cuts and bruises. Within seconds I was jumping/hopping/cringing/cursing around from the sting. Even my uncut fingers suffered the corroding white effects of the mighty hydrogen peroxide.

Oooo! I can see my fingerprints!

Rob the smartass said this to me today: “have a nice trip…. see ya next fall… I don’t think you understand the gravity of this situation…. its such a good deal I think you should DIVE right in”. Yes, all puns intended. For those of you who don’t get the hilarity of it, re-think the meanings of the italicised words. Ya know, fall can be autumn as in the season and it is also the past tense of fell…get it?

So did you have a good laugh? Have I made your day with my misfortune? I did? Great. Now if you will excuse me, I’m going to find a rock and hide under it until this “incident” is forgotten although I highly doubt it considering I just typed it all out for the whole world to see and to see again and again.

From your friendly tripper blogger, I’m signing off.

P/S I know I said I was going to post up sun halo pictures but would you rather see pictures of that than read about me making a number 7 with one leg in the drain? Yeah, that’s what I thought too.

Hair removal Part 2: The Epilator

June 30, 2007

Got back from badminton an hour ago. I’m all showered and refresh. Problem is I’M SO FREAKING HUNGRY!!! At this point I think anything would look delicious to me. It’s almost midnight so eating anything heavy is out of the question for me. Somehow I have developed some sort of phobia on eating this late for fear of gaining weight. I know I said I’m happy with how I am in previous post but I rather not gain weight. It’s really not good for me.

Oh yes! I got an epilator. If you don’t know what it is, it’s actually a hair removal tool. Basically what it does is it YANKS OUT those pesky hair (be it on the legs, armpits, bikini line etc) at the root so it won’t grow back as fast or rough. Apply some cocoa butter lotion after it and it stays so smooth! It lasted me about 2 weeks. I really love it. The downside is that the first time I used it, it hurt! The leg process wasn’t so bad but the armpits was like OMIGOD! I was hopping around. If you practice pulling out hair with tweezers then using the epilator would be nothing. I never used tweezers before so it hurt! It makes waxing strips (which I have used) less painful.

The instructions for the epilator says you can use it for the bikini line and the thought of that makes me cringe. I mean, it hurt on the armpits for me, I just twitch and cringe at the thought of doing the bikini line. *CRINGE* Ouch! Just trying to imagine how much it would hurt, hurts!

I bought a Braun one if you guys are wondering. It’s priced around RM180 something at the Guardian pharmacy in Satok. I went searching for it in a few branches because they were out of stock. There were about 4 or 5 left when I bought it so I can’t say if they still have it or not. So if any of you guys are interested, go get it and let me know how well it works for you.

I wonder if Guardian or Braun are going to pay me for this advertisement. *hint*hint*hint*

Poorer by RM33.98

June 28, 2007

I was unable to go online for 24 hours. Reason? TM screwed up, AGAIN.

Yesterday morning a bunch of technicians from TM came to “fix” the phone line for a neighbour’s house. The reason I know this is because the technicians asked my dad which house is 39B (my house is 39). Anyway, MY phone line got disconnected. There was no dialling tone for 24 hours, which meant not being able to connect to Streamyx or Jaring. My guess is that they “fixed” the wrong thing and cut off my phone line.

I wasn’t at all that worried because I thought since I have a cool-spanking new phone that has the capability to be used as a modem. I logged on and was so happy and proud that I could still go online. I messaged Rob telling him I’m online using Pinkie and was on for about 15-20 minutes. My last message to Rob was “I wonder how much this is going to cost” (which he didn’t even get!) and I got disconnected. Next thing I knew I got a message from DiGi telling my credit balance is ZERO. I had RM26.43 prior (yes I checked cause I wanted to know how much it would cost). How absurd!!! It gets worse….

I had a RM30 reload coupon at hand, did the whole reload and checked the balance…RM22.45! Another RM7.55 deducted!!!!!!!!!! In total RM33.98 got deducted for 15 minutes!!! I was so pissed I almost cried. *sigh*

I called up the customer careline and made a report. I ended up using the other phone line to connect to Jaring which was a pain because I had to connect multiple phone wires as one wasn’t long enough to reach my room. This morning a couple technicians came and fiddled around the phone lines and left. The phone line still didn’t work. Around 2pm they came back and mucked around more. By 4pm everything was up and running. The first words out of Rob’s mouth when he came online to talk was “Welcome back to the land of high-speed internet.” I rolled my eyes the second he was done saying that. He is SUCH a smartass. =P

So yeah, the next time you guys out there plan to use your phone as a modem…DON’T DO IT. At least not on your prepaid line because it really does suck the credit out of you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
